What can your donation to Clean the World do? CTW provides much-needed soap to under-developed countries where people--mostly children--die everyday of diseases that could've been prevented with handwashing. Every $1 donation will recycle the left-over hotel soap from 2 hotel rooms for an entire month. That equates to 40 bars of soap and 40 bottles of shampoo that will not hit our landfills and water systems, but instead supply 5 needy families with a life saving necessity for ONE MONTH. Please give a donation of $25, $50, or $100 and help save the lives of children all over the world!

"When I read that Soap ebook, it was like a religious experience. I sat there and watched it unfold...page after page, paragraph and image, captions, text, such a complicated subject. And you made it so clear and easy to understand. I followed along with some kind of pleasure in learning something new. It was such a delightful experience. And now I know something about soap!"
-Chuck R., 1/3/10

"I found Soap Making 123 extremely helpful and informative! I love this ebook. I think for the price, it is well worth the money.  As a beginner, you've helped me so much.  I would love to see you produce a beginner soap making video.  That would be great! I'd definitely purchase that too. I made my first batch 2 days ago.  After reading your ebook, I will be able to make my next batch with far more confidence. One of my questions about pH testing was included in your ebook.  Thank you!"

Welcome to the wonderful world of soap making! You're here because you want to learn how to make soap, and you've come to the right place...

Soap making can be as easy as 1-2-3 with the right book to help you get started. Virtually all soap makers get their start by using an instructional soap making book. Unfortunately, there are some weaknesses associated with traditional soap making guidebooks.
  • High-color photographs are expensive to put in traditional hard-copy books...and pictures are extremely helpful for someone who is totally new to soap making
  • Hard-copy books can give you website addresses where you can buy soap making supplies, but an eBook can give you a live hyperlink to that site. Click the link and--voila--you're there!
  • Save the money you would spend on shipping or gas and get the soap making instructions you want right now. My eBook can be instantly downloaded--no waiting.
Soap Making 123 is the best buy for your money for all of these reasons. With shipping, even the cheapest soap making books on Amazon.com will cost you around $15-$20.

When I taught myself how to make soap, I wanted to do it as Christmas gifts for my family and friends. I went to my local Michael's craft store...I wandered around and couldn't find their cold process soap making section. Alas, they don't have one! The clerk told me I'd be better off going next door to the Barnes & Noble and seeing if they had a soap making book.

Of the millions of books that Barnes & Noble had, one--just one--of them was about cold process soap making. Typically, the best soap making books are put out by smaller, independent publishers. In other words, the high quality soap making books have to be special ordered--more waiting!

The book I ended up with was like a "soap making for dummies" from one of those generic series publishers. It had about 3 grainy black and white pictures in it. Christmas was fast approaching, so there wasn't much choice.

I am a professional freelance writer (view my freelancing site here). As I read this book I was pretty disappointed, seeing of all the gaps and half-explanations I came across. As a writer, I would've never been able to give this incomplete material out to others. The book said things like:

"When you're working with cold-process soap, there are a number of colorants that will fade, change, or disappear altogether due to their reaction to active lye" (The Everything Soap Making Book, p. 88).

The author doesn't bother to tell us what those colorants are! Furthermore, all the information I needed was spread out everywhere. There was no simple step-by-step checklist. It was full of vague information like suggesting to buy lye at the hardware or grocery store. I wasted hours driving around to these places and came home empty handed. She could've said order lye from thelyeguy.com--bam, done.

Right then and there, I pledged to create the ultimate soap making book. With each batch of soap I made over the next year, I took notes. With each soap experiment I conducted, I took notes. With each recipe, additive, or oil property I researched, I took notes.

I purchased every soap making ebook and hard-copy book I could get my hands on, and I took notes. At the insistence of my friends and family, I started selling my soaps online and at local farmer's markets and health food stores, and I took notes. I tried homemade soap from other soap makers, and I took notes. I watched every cold process soap making video on YouTube, and I took notes. PHEW!

The result of all that research and experience is Soap Making 123. I purposely chose to publish it as an ebook instead of a hard-copy book because I felt having detailed, color pictures of every step of the process was a must. As a published author (see my book here), I know that traditional publishers are all about the bottom line and give authors little say in the final outcome. Here's The Proof That My Competitors eBooks Are Created by Ghost Writers, Not Soap Makers

Check out this sales pitch from the ebook "Soap Making Success." It says the writer, "Laurel Matthews" is an experienced soap maker with hundreds of satisfied customers and years of experience. Laurel thinks soap making is an art form, and people she doesn't even know have been bugging her to put her "secrets" into a book.

Here is "Laurel's" soap making blog, which features the exact same photo of her that the website did.

And here's how we know the whole thing is a scam and that there is no such person as "Laurel Matthews." It's a stock photo from a software program called "ClickArt" put out by Broderbund (a program I happen to own). You can see there are multiple pictures of this model on the left-hand-side menu.
